Odumodu urges African leaders to fight economic saboteurs

Director-General, Standard Organisation of Nigeria, Dr. Joseph Odumodu
African economies could be robust if the countries on the continent constitute a powerful and vital force to fight economic saboteurs, according to a statement credited to the President of African Organisation for Standardisation, Dr. Joseph Odumodu.
A statement from the organisation noted that at a world press conference organised by ARSO, Odumodu argued that if Africans could trade with one another, the common enemies of the continent like counterfeiters and purveyors of substandard products across the continent would be defeated.
The statement quoted Odumodu as saying that the ARSO President’s forum for Chief Executive Officers of National Standards Bodies scheduled to take place next month, was meant to sensitise the world to the readiness of African standards agencies to strengthen the continental integration by breaking inhibiting economic barriers and enhancing industrial and economic empowerment.
Odumodu stated that over 80 per cent of substandard products circulating in Africa come from outside the continent, a situation which he described as quite worrisome.
