See these petrol tanker fires!!

walahi, talahi, I smell rat with these tanker fire accidents. I hope my suspicion is wrong,” said Ade this Tuesday morning as the newscaster on the local radio announced yet another petrol tanker fire incident in Lagos. “Seems you are thinking what I am thinking,” said Ngozi. “Could it be that the almighty Boko Haram destroyers have devised a new means of mass murder?” asked Idowu. “You mean suicide bombing,” asked Carol.

“This is not bombing; it is suicide petrol tanker mass murder,” replied Idowu. “Yeah, whatever; but on a more serious note, it looks like the Boko guys are at work,” said Carol. “Haba! You guys with your conspiracy theories. Can’t accidents just happen without you reading sinister motives into them? Most of these trucks are accidents waiting to happen,” said Audu.
“Exactly! We are experts at propounding conspiracy theories. Even in religious circles, nothing just happens. If you hit your toe on a stone, some enemy must be at work. If you see a cat going on its own jejely and minding its business, it must be a witch sent after you,” said Iyke.
“Do you blame us? Nothing in nature happens by accident. Now, just look at the tanker incidents critically and analyse them. Apart from happening a few days apart, many would have been avoided. The Onitsha incident for instance, could have been avoided. If you know the area very well, they have these very wide gutters that the driver could have veered into without causing much havoc.
But instead, he directed the tanker into a busy park with so many passengers and somebody is saying that was not premeditated? Again, the Iyana-Ipaja incident, another brake failure and the brake chose to fail in busy area, around a market? Hmm, thank God it was in the early hours of the morning, otherwise, it would have been something else,” said Ngozi.
“In as much as I want to believe your Boko Haram angle, but the truth is that most of these tankers are not in good shape and the drivers are not well trained. Most of them get drunk before taking over the steering so what do you expect?” asked Iyke. “My advice is that we should be extra vigilant. Someone rightly said that Lagos will be a very soft target for Boko Haram because of our I-don’t-care attitude. We think they are only attacking the North-East and we are careless,” said Ade.
“Just look at this: First Onitsha, then Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, a market at Owena, Ondo State, then a tanker loaded with kerosene crashed at Magbon area of Badagry, though it did not result in fire. This was followed by a diesel tanker explosion at Idimu Bus stop, Egbeda, Lagos at about 12:00 midnight destroying 34 houses, 70 shops and 1 tricycle. The latest is the petrol tanker that crashed in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, spilling its content.
All these between May 30 and today! And have you noticed that the Boko guys have intensified their attacks in Borno, Adamawa, Benue and Plateau states?” asked Carol. “I am glad the new administration in Lagos State has moved to ban the sale and consumption of ogogoro (local gin) in the parks,” said Ade.

“Ban wetin? Ok, so what will they give the boys in exchange? Champagne? You and I know it is impossible. These boys fought for them and did all that was necessary for them to remain in power so they cannot be rewarded by banning the same substance that gives them the energy and boldness to do their job,” said Idowu.
“But it is for the good of the society. It will mean fewer accidents on our roads caused by drunken drivers and robberies carried out by area boys empowered by alcohol and drugs,” noted Iyke.
“The bottom line is that we should be more security-conscious and more prayerful. The way things are going, I think the Biblical end-time is here with us. Wickedness is indeed increasing on daily basis. The Boko boys are coming up with different strategies. Just imagine two people pretending to be fighting and when people gathered, they detonated their IEDs!” said Ngozi.
