Nnewi—The Bishop of Niger West Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev,
Johnson Ekwe, has called on Nigerians to support and pray for the newly
elected political leaders in the country, especially, President
Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice Prof Yemi Osinbajo, if they want them to
fulfil in all their election promises.
Bishop Ekwe who succeeded retired Rt Rev Prof Anthony Nkwoka, who addressed newsmen shortly after his enthronement service at Cathedral Church of St Gabriel Umueri Anambra East Local Government Area, Anambra State, said “Nigeria is too big for two men to govern,” adding that what they and other political leaders need support and prayers for them to succeed.
He also said “Now elections have come and gone, President Buhari and his Vice Prof. Osinbajo should play down on partisan politics and shun anything that will make them look sympathetic to tribalism, nepotism,” adding that at their level, “they should see themselves as fathers of the nation and their languages should not be parochial or have tribal coloration.
“President Buhari and his Vice Prof Osinbajo can only succeed if Nigerians support and pray for them and their team. Nigeria is too big for two men to govern, they equally need to play down on partisan politics, there should be no tribalism and nepotism, at their level they should see themselves as the fathers of the nation, their languages should not be parochial, it should not have tribal coloration, it should not be against any religion, they should have broad minds.”
He said he “is confident that the President as an ex-military man has the training of working anywhere he was posted without regard to tribe or religion. Military is a wonderful industry, you work in a place where you do not know anybody. Having that background, I strongly believe that by the grace of God, the President and his Vice will do well.”
On the issue of gay marriage, Bishop Ekwe, said “Gay marriage is from pit of hell, it is just one of those end time phenomena, it is not natural, it is not just a sin, it is an aberration, it is a distortion of order of creation, God by creation made them male and female, he did not say female to female, if a woman has sex with a woman, it is not just a sin, it is an abomination that causes desolation.
“I am happy on the stand of the Primate Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh. Ffortunately, I was with him in United Kingdom when a team of British journalists interviewed him on the matter and he equivocally denounced any sex outside the order of the scriptures, that the Bible remains our final authority, no other word except the word of God.”
