LAGOS—Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has called out his
supporters to rejoice with him on the streets today over the expiration of the
term of the 19 All Progressives Congress, APC, who had been at loggerheads with
him. Expressing relief at the end of the tenure of the lawmakers yesterday, the
governor said the end of the term of the APC controlled legislative House was
now an opportunity for him to get into the act of governance.
New Assembly dominated by PDP lawmakers
Ayo Fayose
The next House of Assembly is
entirely dominated by Fayose’s Peoples Democratic Party, PDP members, who in an
interview with Vanguard pledged total cordiality with the governor. The
APC lawmakers had on April 4, 2015 issued a notice of impeachment to Fayose,
citing cases of abuse of office and gross misconduct.
The impeachment plot against Fayose
also took a new dimension on Monday when the Speaker, Adewale Omirin and his
colleagues made moves to return to the Assembly Complex and continue with the
impeachment move but efforts of the lawmakers were, however, met with
resistance as PDP members blocked all entry points into the state in order to
avoid human and vehicular movement into the state.
Calling out his supporters to come
out today in a state broadcast yesterday, Governor Fayose said: “I want to
thank the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, members, commercial drivers and
motorcyclists, market men and women and citizens of this state for their
continued support for me while the face-off lasted.
“With the expiration of their
tenure, there is relief for me and my administration, and it is now time to
perform my duties as governor of the state. “In view of my travail in the hands
of the outgone lawmakers, reprieve has now come to my government and I can now
feel like a governor.
Plans procession
“By tomorrow, Friday, June 5,
(today) I shall be embarking on a town procession in Ado Ekiti to thank my
people for their support. I want you to meet me at Fajuyi Park where I am going
to commence the procession and move around to give glory to God and humanity”,
Fayose stated.
Reps-elect counsel APC lawmakers
Meanwhile, House of Representatives
members-elect from Ekiti State have counselled the 19 All Progressives
Congress, APC, members of the State House of Assembly to seek God’s forgiveness
for their failed moves against Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The members-elect, who are all
members of the PDP in a joint statement issued from Ado-Ekiti yesterday also
urged the incoming members of the State House of Assembly to shy away from the
allegedly combative stance of the 19 lawmakers whose term expires today.
In the statement signed by the six
members-elect, Ayo Oladimeji, Segun Adekola, Akin Awodumila, Olamide Oni,
Thaddeus Aina and Kehinde Agboola, the APC lawmakers were flayed for
purportedly conspiring to throw the state into a state of confusion in their
bid for power.
“If former President Goodluck
Jonathan had behaved the way the APC people in Ekiti State are behaving,
Nigeria would be in crisis by now,” the signatories deposited.
